Major Arcana Tarot Cards

Meet the 22 Major Arcana, from The Fool to The World: broad themes of choice, change, identity and integration.

The larger themes of a reading

The Major Arcana explore recognizable human themes: beginning without complete certainty, developing skill, encountering structure, making choices and accepting change. Drawing a Major card can invite a broad perspective. It does not prove that a major event is about to happen.

A sequence, not a fixed life story

The numbered order can be read as a symbolic journey from The Fool’s openness to The World’s integration. Real lives do not follow the cards in a predictable sequence. You may recognize several themes at once, revisit a theme or find that a particular card does not fit your question.

How they differ from Minor Arcana

Major cards tend to frame broad patterns. Minor cards bring attention to more everyday expressions of initiative, feeling, thought and practical life. Neither group is more powerful or more accurate. The full deck lets both scales appear in a reading.

Reading difficult imagery

Death concerns transition, The Devil limiting attachments, and The Tower disrupted assumptions or fragile arrangements. These are symbolic interpretations, not forecasts of death, evil or disaster. Read the full meaning before imposing a frightening literal interpretation.
